CrossFit Games 2021: What can you expect?

CrossFit Games 2021 are nearing, and many CrossFit Games 2021 participants are extremely excited. Other than the traditional CrossFit Games, events for women will be held. We have all heard about the women's competition, the Pegboard contest, the Cutting system, and Reebok's equipment, but do you know what to expect? Keep reading to find the answer! Women's competition

This morning, the women's competition began at the 2021 Crossfit Games with the swim event. Jonne Koski, Tia-Clair Toomey Orr, and TiaClair Toomey Orr were the winners in the first event. After maintaining her lead throughout competition, Koski was declared the overall winner. Tall and Eramoo O'Connell came in second and third, respectively. It was the first Games event by women. The women's side wanted to complete the podium.

The women’s competition is populated with high-level competitors. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Kara Saunders of Australia, who was second in Australia and eleventh in the world in 2020, are also contenders. Andrea Nisler is another rising star. She competed in the team category in 2018 and placed third in the United States, and 15th overall in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).

Pegboard contest

The Pegboard contest at the Crossfit Games 2021 was a first. Along with dumbbell overhead squats and double-unders, it was included in the Games' summer Olympic programme. Toomey-Orr won 30 of the Games' most events, setting a new record. Sager won Event 11 for men and earned his third win of the Games. There were several tie in the contest but Toomey Orr's dominance was too strong to stop him winning.

CrossFit Games training involves focusing on ten basic physical fitness skills: endurance, strength flexibility power speed and agility. Pegboard competition tests competitors' grip strength, coordination, and speed. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The Pegboard was a fierce competition that left the athletes feeling proud of their accomplishments.


Cutting system

CrossFit Games will use a cutting system again for individual competitions. Although it's not as drastic as previous Games, it is still quite different from this year. It consists of 15 events so 30 athletes could be reduced after the seventh and eighth events. The question is: How will CrossFit adjust points after cuts? The scoring table used during the 2019 games was almost identical to that used in 2021. It is likely that this will continue.

The CrossFit Games' largest ever field, consisting of 236 athletes this year, is the largest ever. The first six events result in major cuts. The field is reduced to 75 athletes. The top 30 then compete in a sprint couplet to determine the top ten. The top 20 competitors then compete for the remaining six events. Castro's system was criticised by veteran Games participants, who felt that the cuts were too significant.

Reebok equipment

Reebok announced new CrossFit Games footwear, clothing and other equipment. Nano X1 will be the new shoes. They're made to fit multiple fitness needs. Reebok describes this shoe as the "shoe of fitness", but it actually feels more like an ordinary training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar, which promotes durability, breathability, and strength, is the shoe's upper. The shoes' responsiveness is enhanced thanks to the RopePro tech and the firm midsole.

Reebok's contract with CrossFit will end at the end of 2020, and the Games will be without a title sponsor. Reebok sponsored the Games for more a decade. Now, it is obvious that the company will lessen its involvement. Reebok will no longer sponsor the Games' prize money, but it will continue to manufacture all the athletic apparel and equipment used by athletes, including the Reebok gear. However, Reebok CrossFit Games will no longer be called the company.
